About this vaccine
Tick-borne encephalitis is spread by tick bites in forested parts of Central and Eastern Europe, Scandinavia, the Baltics, Russia and northern Asia.
It is commonly considered if you will be:
An accelerated schedule may be possible if you are travelling soon — ask at your consultation.
Schedule
Three doses — the first two one to three months apart, the third 5–12 months later.
Boosters
After about three years if you keep visiting risk areas.
A sore arm is common. Some people get a headache, aching muscles or a mild temperature after the first dose in particular.
Cover up, use repellent and check for ticks daily — the vaccine is one part of staying well, not the whole of it.
Report a suspected side effect to the MHRA Yellow Card scheme at yellowcard.mhra.gov.uk.
