Often same-day, subject to availability — call and we'll check today's clinic

How same-day works

Ring us, get assessed, and have what's suitable the same visit

There's no waiting list and no referral. The quickest route is a phone call — we'll tell you what today's clinic has free, and what your trip actually needs, before you come down.

  1. Call the pharmacyTell us where you're going and when you fly. We'll check what's free in today's clinic and be honest if there's nothing left today.
  2. Free travel risk assessmentA pharmacist goes through your destinations, your plans and your vaccination history against the UK's NaTHNaC travel health guidance.
  3. Vaccines at the same visit where possibleIf something is right for you, in stock and clinically appropriate today, it's given in the private room at the same appointment.
  4. You leave with a record and a planA record of what you've had, any further doses diarised, and advice on malaria prevention, bites, food and water for your trip.

Usually possible at short notice

Subject to availability and to the pharmacist's assessment on the day.

  • Hepatitis A — a single dose before travel starts working for the trip
  • Typhoid — one dose, ideally at least 2 weeks before you go
  • Tetanus, diphtheria and polio booster
  • Meningitis ACWY — one dose, usually at least 10 days before travel, with the certificate for Hajj and Umrah
  • Malaria risk assessment and prevention advice for your route
  • Bite avoidance, and food and water advice for where you're going

Needs starting weeks ahead

These are courses. If you're flying in days, you may not be able to complete one before you go — the pharmacist will tell you honestly what's still worth starting.

  • Rabies — a course of 3 doses over 21–28 days
  • Hepatitis B — a course of 3 doses; accelerated schedules may be possible, so ask early
  • Japanese encephalitis — 2 doses, typically 28 days apart
  • Tick-borne encephalitis — a course of 3 doses
  • Cholera — 2 oral doses 1–6 weeks apart, finished at least a week before travel
  • Chickenpox — 2 doses, 4–8 weeks apart

Yellow fever is a different matter entirely: it can only be given at designated centres, and Burntwood Clinic is not one. If your destination needs it, we'll check the requirement with you and point you to your nearest designated centre — Touchwood Pharmacy, Greenhill Health Centre, Lichfield WS13 6JL. Certificates also only become valid 10 days after vaccination, so that one really is worth sorting early.

Same-day appointments are often available but never guaranteed — it depends on the day, the clinic list and what's in stock. Some protection is better than none: even if you can't finish a course, a pharmacist will tell you what still helps in the time you have.

What to bring to a same-day appointment

None of it is essential — come as you are if you're short of time. But the more of this you have with you, the more the pharmacist can do in one visit.

Short-notice questions

Leaving it late, answered honestly.

Flying soon? The fastest answer is a phone call — ring 01543 682921 and ask for the travel clinic.

  • You're welcome to come in and ask — we're a working pharmacy on Chasetown High Street and someone will always speak to you. But travel appointments use the private consultation room and a pharmacist's time, so whether you can be seen there and then depends on the day. Calling 01543 682921 first is much quicker than a wasted journey: we'll tell you honestly what's free today.

  • Usually, yes. Some protection is better than none, and several travel vaccines are a single dose that still does useful work when given close to departure. What you can't do the day before is complete a course like rabies or hepatitis B. A pharmacist will tell you plainly what still helps in the time you have, what won't, and what to do instead — including malaria prevention, bite avoidance and food and water advice, which matter whatever your vaccination status.

  • You'll go through your trip with a pharmacist — destinations, dates, what you'll be doing and your health and vaccination history — and they'll explain what's usually advised and what it costs. Anything suitable, in stock and clinically appropriate that day can be given in the private room, and you leave with a record of it. • No. Yellow fever vaccination and the international certificate can only be given at centres designated for it, and Burntwood Clinic isn't one. We'll check whether your destination genuinely requires it and point you to your nearest designated centre — Touchwood Pharmacy at Greenhill Health Centre, Lichfield WS13 6JL. It's also worth knowing a yellow fever certificate only becomes valid 10 days after vaccination, so that one can't be left to the last minute.

  • The vaccines are priced the same whenever you have them — see the travel vaccine price list. The pharmacist confirms the price with you before anything goes ahead. [CLIENT TO CONFIRM: whether any separate fee applies to a same-day or urgent appointment]

  • Often, yes — but tell us when you call so we can set aside enough time rather than fitting you in one at a time. For larger parties, gap-year groups, work trips or Hajj and Umrah groups, our group and corporate page is the better starting point and group rates are available on request.
