About this vaccine
Cholera is spread through contaminated water and food. Most holiday travellers do not need it — it is aimed at people whose trip carries a higher risk.
Ask about it if you are:
It is taken as a drink rather than an injection, so plan the timing with food and other medicines.
Schedule
Two oral doses one to six weeks apart, finished at least a week before travel.
Boosters
After about two years for adults if you are still at risk.
Some people get mild stomach upset, cramps or nausea. Most people have none.
You need to avoid food and drink for an hour either side of each dose, so your pharmacist will talk you through how to take it.
Report a suspected side effect to the MHRA Yellow Card scheme at yellowcard.mhra.gov.uk.
